Part 2: Peace With Yourself · Lesson 9 of 38
Thinly Sliced Life, Part 2
In this exercise, we’ll move forward in time - the previous lesson was about you as a baby, this one is about you as a young child.
Think of an early memory from your childhood when you did something you felt bad about. Some moment in which you made a mistake, something you regretted and something that may or may not have led to some kind of punishment.
Then, imagine that you could step through a time portal and witness this scene as your adult self.
Revisiting this slice of your life and seeing it through your adult eyes, how does it change the emotional charge? How do you see the situation differently now than when you were a child?
Exercise
- Bring to mind an early memory of making a mistake.
- Imagine your current self stepping into this scene from the past.
- Write a letter to your younger self, expressing how you feel about this past mistake now.
- Focus on expressing love, acceptance and care.
- Don’t advise, don’t fix.
