Part 3: Peace With Others · Lesson 16 of 38

Reframing Conflict (Hard Model)

Now it’s time to apply the tools we learnt in the previous lesson to a stickier, more emotionally charged situation.

Think of any recent conflict with someone close to you (friends, family, loved ones). Something that got you emotionally worked up with feelings of hurt, betrayal, anger, resentment…

This situation, painful as it may be, is what we’re using as a growth opportunity in this exercise.

Exercise

  • Write about the emotionally charged situation, brain dump style.
  • Describe what happened - as seen by a neutral 3rd party on CCTV.
  • Describe how it made you feel - keep it short, describe the raw emotions.
  • Describe what stories you told yourself about it.
  • Observe the leap you made from what happened to the emotionally painful stories in your mind.
  • Optional: write down answers to the question “what else could be true?”
