Part 4: Loop Gardening · Lesson 28 of 38
Themed Journals
Many problems can be solved and many goals can be achieved if we simply sustain our attention on them for long enough. Unfortunately, we live in a world of constant distraction so it’s easy to lose sight or to spread ourselves too thinly.
An elegant solution to this is to start a Themed Journal.
Here’s how:
The Themed Journal
- Pick one area of your life that you want to focus on. One specific problem, one toxic loop or one specific thing you want to grow and cultivate.
- Start a Themed Journal on this topic, e.g. “My People Pleasing Journal” or “Doing What I Said I’d Do Journal”
- You can use a physically separate notebook for this, but it’s not mandatory.
- Every day, use this journal to check in with this area of your life.
Prompts
Here are some prompts you can use for your daily writing:
- In this specific area of my life, what happened / what came up today?
- What is the next small step I can implement to improve / cultivate this in my life?
- In what way did I implement my new behaviors today?
- What missed opportunities came up today? What will I do differently next time?
- As I experiment with a new way of being, what triggers, fears and emotional charges come up?
Also, use all of your Introspective Writing tools to work through whatever comes up.
The Challenge
Start a Themed Journal for one area of your life and stick with it for at least 3 weeks.
