Lesson 6 of 7
Parts Work
Notes:
- When a child falls, it cries not necessarily because of the pain, but because of the suddenness, the shock of the situation.
- With this accident, there’s a part of me that is pretty calm throughout all of it. The part that can assess the situation and say: “okay, I’m fine, I can still breathe and walk and stuff, I’ll probably survive”
- But there are also parts of me that are less equipped to handle the accident. Parts of me that are like this shocked, crying child. Confused in the aftermath.
- I took a moment to address my parts and try to soothe them. To tell them I’m sorry this happened, I understand their pain and shock and frustration and promise that everything will be okay.
