Lesson 10 of 10
5 Steps to Long Term Success
Congratulations, you’ve made it to the final lesson of this program!
What you now have is a simple but effective system that is designed to minimize procrastination, give you laser sharp clarity about your goals & priorities and help you make progress without wasting your time.
As you’ve seen, none of this is rocket science. The system we’ve put together here makes sense and it’s plain to see that this will lead you to the results you want… like many things in life, making good use of your time is simple, but not easy.
The Basic Components
Putting it all together, this is what the basic components of our system look like:
- Know what your goal is.
- Break it into milestones & tasks.
- Always know what your top priority is.
- Work on it with deep focus, without distractions, in a single tasking manner, every day.
- Don’t get distracted, don’t change directions constantly, don’t “multitask”.
- Keep going. Keep showing up like a pro.
Do this and you’re outperforming 90% of people out there.
5 Steps to Long Term Success
The plan is simple, but not easy. So what can we do to make it a bit easier? What can you focus on, to make it more likely that you’ll stick with this in the longer term and get the results you want?
Here are 5 steps that make a huge difference:
1) Commit for 1 Month
You are currently 10 days into the program. It’s a good start, but not enough to solidify these new habits. And not enough for you to prove to yourself that this new approach works. Results don’t come instantly. And anything new will feel uncomfortable and unfamiliar at first.
So, give yourself 1 month. Commit to following this system, whether you feel like it or not, for 1 whole month. After that, you can see how you feel and how far you’ve come.
2) Schedule in Advance
Make sure that time for your F90 sessions is scheduled in advance. Ideally, do these sessions at the same time every day. That makes it easier to form a habit (and the more habitual something becomes, the easier it feels). It also makes it more likely that you actually keep doing these sessions. If you’re randomly trying to find some time to squeeze in a F90 session each day, you’re setting yourself up to fail.
3) Celebrate Your Wins
Keep celebrating your wins, even the small ones. Especially the small ones. If you have ambitious goals, it will take a long time for you to achieve the big wins. Don’t wait to feel good until you’ve reached the finish line. Feel good about showing up and putting in the work. Feel good about checking a small task off your list. Feel good about learning from a mistake, picking yourself up and trying again.
The better you are at celebrating your small wins, the more momentum you can generate towards your big goals.
4) Find an Accountability Partner
Accountability & community make a huge difference to the results you get. If you can find someone who has similar goals to your own and you can have each other’s backs and hold each other accountable, you’ll get much further, much sooner.
5) Join a Group or Find a Coach
Take that one step further: join a small accountability group, or work with a coach. A handful of people with ambitious goals of their own, checking in once a week, keeps you honest in a way that’s hard to manage alone. And a good coach can spot the patterns you’re too close to see.
ikario used to run accountability groups and coaching for people taking this course. We don’t anymore, but you don’t need us for this. Look for a mastermind or accountability group in your field, or ask a friend or two with similar goals to start one with you. What matters is that someone expects to hear how your week went.
