Sex, death and money are three parts of life nobody gets to skip. In our culture all three sit in the shadow. We chase them or can’t look away from them, and we also feel shame, fear and resistance around them. That’s why they’re such powerful places to work on yourself. In this episode I talk about how my relationship with each one changed, what that did for my life, and why the one you least want to face is probably where you’ll grow the most.
In this episode
- Why our culture worships sex, money and death on one side while shaming and avoiding them on the other.
- The money paradox: people say they’d need about twice what they have, yet resent the rich and resist raising their prices.
- Growing up with deep sexual shame, escaping into porn, and how accepting my own desires became one of my deepest healing experiences.
- How suppressing one part of me numbed the rest of my life, and how much energy that shame and tension had been using up.
- Making friends with death through martial arts, warrior philosophy and memento mori, and finally understanding the line from Troy about the gods envying us.
- How knowing that everything ends brings gratitude and presence, even on a bike ride I take almost every day.
- Getting fed up with being broke and tracking every penny, then sliding back into avoiding money after a business failed.
- The question “If money was your lover, would she want to have sex with you right now?” and what paying loving attention changed.
